The Wanderfreund is LEKI’s dependable SLS trekking pole from the mid-2000s — a sturdy three-section aluminium pole finished in Black HS for durability, well suited to classic UK walking routes from the North Downs to the Yorkshire Dales. LESECL11 is the genuine LEKI replacement lower section for this model: 14 mm in diameter, 440 mm printed length, finished in Black HS anodized aluminium, and built for the SLS internal twist-lock interface. It covers the Wanderfreund across its production run from approximately 2006 to 2009. The 440 mm lower section is a precise specification — the printed length determines the pole’s adjustment range and ensures the SLS collar seats correctly within the middle section. ✓ To fit: twist the SLS collar at the base of the middle section anti-clockwise to release. The lower section slides free. Insert LESECL11 from below, aligning it with the internal twist-lock collar. Push until fully seated, then twist clockwise until the lock engages with a firm stop. Set to your required length and pull-test before use.
✓ SLS lock check: after fitting, set the pole to mid-length and apply firm downward pressure on the tip. The section must not move. The SLS mechanism is fixed-tension — if the collar does not hold after correct fitting it requires replacement.
✓ SLS identification: rotate the collar at the joint between the lower and middle sections. SLS releases with a short anti-clockwise twist; an external lever at this joint means Speed Lock, not SLS, and this section is not compatible.
✓ Corrosion check: mid-2000s poles are now 15–20 years old; inspect the internal collar threads for oxidation or grit before fitting the new section, and clean if necessary.
✓ If the collar does not hold after correct fitting, inspect the internal locking ring for wear — the SLS mechanism is fixed-tension and cannot be adjusted; a worn collar must be replaced.
