Description
LEKI Code: LESECL73 14 mm Lower Section 490 mm Length Nature / Silver Anodized Speed Lock 1 (SL1) 18/16/14 mm Section Production Era: 2015–2022
The Khumbu, Makalu, Sherpa XL and their generation of 18/16/14 mm LEKI poles have been the quiet backbone of UK hill walking for years — reliable, unshowy, and built to go out in all weathers across Dartmoor, the Peak District, and beyond. They are not lightweight race poles or specialist ultralight kit. They are the poles that have done the miles, and the lower section, the component that contacts the ground on every single stride, is the one most likely to show wear after sustained use. Gouges, corrosion at the collar, a slow loss of grip in the clamp — these are the gradual consequences of a pole that is actually being used, not stored. LESECL73 is the genuine LEKI replacement lower section for this range, covering the Khumbu, Makalu, Strato, Sherpa XL, and additional models from approximately 2015 to 2022. At 490 mm and 14 mm in diameter, in nature/silver anodized aluminium, LESECL73 restores a well-used pole to full working order without the cost of a full replacement. The 490 mm printed length marked on your existing lower section is the primary identifier — combined with a 14 mm tip diameter and a Speed Lock 1 lever, these three details confirm this is the correct part. Check them before ordering.

► Compatible Poles & Fitting Guide
LESECL73 is confirmed compatible with the following LEKI poles by model name, where identification has been established from official LEKI product records and catalogue data. Article code prefixes indicate production season. Always verify against the 490 mm printed length and 14 mm diameter on your existing lower section — these measurements override model name matching.

✓ To fit: open the Speed Lock 1 lever fully at the base of the middle section. Slide the existing lower section downward and withdraw. Insert LESECL73 from below, pushing until the internal collar stop is reached. Close the lever firmly. Set to your required length and confirm the clamp holds under a firm pull-test before heading out.
✓ Lever tension adjustment: if the Speed Lock 1 lever does not clamp securely after fitting, locate the small adjustment screw on the lever body and turn clockwise in quarter-turn increments to increase clamping force.
► Not Compatible With
✗ Speed Lock 2 (SL2) poles — the SL2 lever housing uses different clamping geometry; many 18/16/14 mm models including the Khumbu and Makalu transitioned to SL2 in later seasons — if your pole was purchased after 2022, verify the locking system before ordering
✗ Speed Lock + (SL+) poles — different lever generation with a different tube interface; not interchangeable with Speed Lock 1 hardware
✗ SLS (Super Lock System) poles — internal twist-lock mechanism with different section dimensions; incompatible with Speed Lock 1 lever hardware
✗ Poles with a different lower section specification — if your existing lower section is not marked 490 mm, or if the tip end does not measure 14 mm in diameter, this is not the correct section; search by your printed length and diameter to find the right LEKI section code
BEFORE YOU ORDER — FOUR-POINT CHECK
✓ Printed length: the measurement printed on your existing lower section must read 490 mm — this single number is the most reliable identifier and overrides model name, season, or colour
✓ Diameter: the tip end of the section must measure 14 mm — use a calliper or verify with the product documentation that came with your poles
✓ Locking system: your poles must use Speed Lock 1 (SL1) — look for an external lever clamp at the base of the middle section marked “SL1” or “Speed Lock”; if your pole was purchased from 2022 onwards, check carefully as many 18/16/14 mm models transitioned to Speed Lock 2
✓ Construction: confirm your pole is 3-section telescopic with an 18/16/14 mm section profile — the upper section should be 18 mm and the middle section 16 mm
