Description

LEKI Code: LESECL13 14 mm Lower Section 500 mm Length Rough Black Classic Lock (Internal Twist) 16/14 mm Section Production Era: Pre–2006
This Classic Lock aluminium lower section belongs to LEKI’s pre-2006 trekking pole generation, when the internal twist-collar locking mechanism was standard across the mid-range line. The two-section 16/14 mm construction uses a longer lower section by modern standards — at 500 mm, this section runs from basket to well above mid-shaft — making it the majority of the pole’s working length. These poles were built for durable, straightforward walking performance, and the Rough Black finish was typical of the entry and mid-range models produced in this era. UK walkers who bought poles in the early 2000s for use on the Pennine Way or the West Highland Way may well be working with this generation of section. Correct replacement requires verification of both the printed length (500 mm) and diameter (14 mm) marked on your existing lower section. The Classic Lock system predates SLS and uses a different thread geometry; fitting an SLS or Speed Lock section will not secure correctly. Always check the printed specifications on your current section before ordering—these measurements are the definitive validation points.

► Compatible Poles & Fitting Guide
LESECL13 is a pre-2006 Classic Lock lower section. Specific compatible pole model names are not established from available records for this generation — the Classic Lock system predates comprehensive spare part documentation. The definitive compatibility check is the 500 mm printed length and 14 mm diameter on your existing section. If you are unsure whether your pole uses Classic Lock, the identification guide below will help you confirm before ordering.
Classic Lock identification: the locking mechanism is a collar moulded into or around the shaft at the joint; it twists to engage and disengage. There is no external lever, no separate SLS collar component, and no button. The shaft surface itself rotates or a moulded ring at the joint turns to lock.
Distinguishing Classic Lock from SLS: SLS has a clearly separate, externally visible twist collar at the joint base that can be gripped and rotated independently of the shaft. Classic Lock has a more integrated appearance where the locking action feels like part of the shaft itself.
✓ To replace: grip the upper section firmly and rotate the lower section anti-clockwise to unlock. Once released, pull the lower section free from the upper. Insert the replacement from below until it seats at the internal stop. Rotate clockwise to re-lock firmly.
✓ Lock verification: apply firm downward pressure on the tip with the pole assembled; the lower section must not slip, rotate, or click. Any movement means incomplete locking or worn locking surfaces.
✓ Age inspection: Classic Lock poles are now over 20 years old at minimum. Check the locking surfaces inside the joint for wear, scoring, or deformation; worn surfaces may not grip the replacement section reliably even when fully tightened.
✓ The 500 mm lower section length confirms a two-section design; the lower section slides directly inside the 16 mm upper section with no middle section in the assembly.
✓ After fitting, perform a full extension pull-test and a torsion check — hold both sections and try to rotate them in opposite directions; any rotational play indicates the lock is not engaged or is too worn to hold safely.
► Not Compatible With
✗ SLS (Super Lock System) twist collar — different thread pitch and external collar geometry; will not lock securely with Classic Lock poles
✗ SL1 (Speed Lock 1), SL2 (Speed Lock 2), or SL+ (Speed Lock Plus) external lever systems — entirely different locking mechanism; incompatible with Classic Lock poles
✗ Sections with 12 mm or 16 mm lower diameter — will not seat correctly inside the 16 mm upper section bore
Poles whose existing lower section is not marked 500 mm — the printed length is the definitive check; do not order based on visual assessment or age estimate alone
