These poles were designed for experienced UK mountain walkers demanding both visual quality and reliable SLS locking performance on multi-day routes across the Cairngorms or extended traverses of the Pennine Way. The SLS twist collar is specific to this generation — it is not compatible with SL1, SL2, or SL+ lever-lock systems. ✓ Twist the SLS collar at the upper joint anti-clockwise to release the lower section. Insert the replacement from below until it seats at the internal stop. Twist clockwise until firmly secured. Pull-test before use.
✓ SLS lock verification: apply firm downward pressure on the tip; no slip, rotation, or clicking should occur. Any movement indicates incomplete locking or collar wear requiring attention before use.
✓ Silver coating check: inspect the surface for flaking, scoring, or corrosion beneath the coating; these poles are now 15–20 years old at minimum and surface degradation does not affect structural performance but may indicate moisture ingress at the joint.
