The Carbon Titanium was built for walkers who wanted the reduced weight of the 14/12 mm Lite section profile combined with the one-handed convenience of the Speed Lock 1 (SL1) lever — a pole that handled the steeper paths of Snowdonia's Glyderau or the technical sections of the Cape Wrath Trail without the bulk of a standard 16/14 mm pole. The lower section, finished in carbon black (colour code 098), is the component that takes direct impact from rocky ground. When it bends or the section wall fails, this genuine replacement restores the 12 mm diameter, 454 mm printed length, and full structural integrity of the Carbon Titanium at the tip end. This is an aluminium lower section with a carbon black finish (098), produced from the 2011–2015 era and built around the Speed Lock 1 (SL1) external lever system. The SL1 lever applies clamping force to the outer wall of the lower section — the correct 12 mm diameter is critical for the lever to achieve full clamping force. At the lighter 14/12 mm section profile, diameter precision is particularly important: undersized sections will slip and cannot be tensioned correctly. Sold as a single section.

✓ Length verification: Confirm the 454 mm printed marking on your existing lower section before ordering — any section showing a different printed length requires a different spare part.
✓ Fitting: Slide the new lower section into the middle section from the tip end. Close the Speed Lock 1 lever and confirm the section holds firmly under hand pressure. The lever should close flush — if it does not fully close, check the section diameter with calipers before proceeding.
✓ Lever tension adjustment: If the section is loose under normal clamping force, tighten the adjuster on the clamp collar clockwise in small increments. At the 12 mm section diameter, small adjustments have a proportionally larger effect — re-test grip after each quarter-turn.
✓ Care after fitting: Wipe the section clean after each use in mud or wet conditions. Keep the SL1 lever pivot free from debris — grit build-up at the lever prevents it from closing flush and reduces clamping force.
