The LEKI Shaft Sleeve Fin Vario is the base of the Fin Vario interchangeable basket system. It fits over the tip end of the pole shaft and forms the external mounting point for all Fin Vario basket sizes and the Fin Vario Roller Tip. Without this sleeve in good condition, no Fin Vario basket or tip can lock securely into place.
Sold individually, this sleeve is the replacement you need when the original becomes worn, cracked, or damaged during training. Weighing 36g, it adds no meaningful weight to the pole. Manufactured by LEKI to exact specification — fits the Fin Vario system on cross-country and ski roller poles where the Fin Vario basket or roller tip is fitted as standard.

About the Fin Vario System ▼
The Fin Vario is LEKI's interchangeable basket system for cross-country and ski roller poles. The black shaft sleeve (this part) is the base of the system — it fits permanently on the pole shaft and provides the mounting point for all Fin Vario basket sizes and the roller tip. From the same sleeve, athletes can switch between the S/M basket (racing and hard-packed conditions, frozen surfaces, artificial snow), the medium basket (softer surfaces), and the XL basket (very soft conditions and days after heavy snowfall). For summer training and autumn use on sealed roads, the Fin Vario Roller Tip (850040112) fits the same sleeve. The shaft sleeve itself does not change between configurations — replace it only when the sleeve is damaged.
When to replace the shaft sleeve ▼
Replace this sleeve if: the basket no longer clicks securely into place and the issue is the sleeve rather than the basket itself; the sleeve shows visible cracking, deformation, or damage from impact; the sleeve has been lost during maintenance or tip-swapping. If the basket or roller tip is the worn component, order those separately — the shaft sleeve is a separate part and does not need to be replaced unless damaged.
Fitting and removing the basket ▼
To remove a basket or roller tip: LEKI recommends wearing a glove to protect against the sharp tip cover. Turn the basket anti-clockwise to release it from the sleeve. To fit a replacement: turn the basket clockwise onto the sleeve until the yellow nose on the back of the basket clicks firmly into the gap on the sleeve. A secure fit means no movement or rotation — if the basket turns freely, it is not fully seated.
