Description

The LEKI DSS Tip 12mm is the genuine OEM replacement tip for LEKI trekking poles equipped with the Dynamic Suspension System (DSS) anti-shock mechanism. Designed for poles with a 12mm lower section diameter, it restores the spring-loaded cushioning that reduces impact through knees and joints on rocky, hard-packed, or descending terrain.

The DSS tip integrates a hardened carbide insert within a spring-loaded rubber housing — the spring absorbs ground impact dynamically rather than transmitting shock directly through the shaft. Fitting a worn or damaged DSS tip with a genuine replacement maintains the original spring rate and the correct seating geometry for your pole's lower section.

This tip is compatible with the Khumbu Lite AS, Legacy Lite AS, and Makalu Lite AS. It is not compatible with LEKI AS poles using a 14mm or 18mm lower section diameter.

Why it matters on the mountain
  • A worn DSS tip reduces spring travel — replacing it restores full anti-shock protection on long descents where joint stress accumulates.
  • Carbide tip insert maintains grip on hard rock, packed earth, and icy trail surfaces where rubber alone would slip.
  • Genuine LEKI part ensures the correct spring rate and housing tolerance — aftermarket tips alter the DSS performance and can cause premature wear on the lower section collar.
  • Extending pole life through tip replacement is far more cost-effective than replacing the lower section or the full pole.
KEY FEATURES

  • Fits 12mm lower section diameter — compatible with Khumbu Lite AS, Legacy Lite AS, Makalu Lite AS
  • Spring-loaded housing absorbs ground impact dynamically on downhill and hard terrain
  • Hardened carbide tip insert for hard-surface grip and durability
HIGHLIGHTS
DSS — Dynamic Suspension System explained
LEKI's DSS integrates the anti-shock mechanism directly into the tip assembly rather than mid-shaft. A calibrated spring inside the tip housing absorbs impact at the point of ground contact, reducing transmitted vibration by up to 30% compared to non-DSS poles. The DSS tip is a consumable part — carbide wear and spring fatigue are normal over extended use and the tip is designed to be replaced independently of the lower section.
Fitting a replacement DSS tip
The DSS tip unscrews from the lower section with a quarter-turn anticlockwise. No tools required. Clean the lower section thread before fitting the replacement, and hand-tighten clockwise until snug. LEKI recommends checking tip tightness before each multi-day trip.
When to replace your DSS tip
Replace when the carbide insert is visibly worn flush or rounded, when the tip housing cracks or deforms, or when the spring travel feels reduced — typically indicated by harder impact feel on descents compared to a new tip. Under regular mountain use, replacement is typically required every 1–2 seasons depending on terrain.
